The vision of the Doctoral Study Program in Extension and Development Communication is “to become a leading study program in the field of extension and development communication to support the process of sustainable national development and community empowerment and achieve prosperity in the frame of globalization“.
The mission of the Doctoral Program (S3) Extension and Development Communication Study Program is formulated as follows:
- Developing superior and quality higher education for the development of science and technology in the field of extension and development communication.
- Supporting the process of sustainable community development through quality and professional education, research, and community service.
- Develop and utilize relevant cross-institutional cooperation networks in the process of development and empowerment of human resources towards community welfare.
This mission is translated into the curriculum developed in the Doctoral Program (S3) of the Extension and Development Communication Study Program.
The uniqueness of the Doctoral Study Program in Extension and Development Communication is that students are trained to be able to analyze local knowledge and synergize with the development of global knowledge/innovation in the context of sustainable community development.
The competencies produced by the Doctoral Study Program in Extension and Development Communication are mastery of knowledge:
- Mastering the philosophy of science, development theory, theories of extension education and communication, and other social theories that are relevant to mentoring, facilitation, community empowerment, and policy making.
- Mastering social research methods (quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods) or combining data types, quantitative and qualitative, with survey research techniques and in-depth interviews, with interdisciplinary approaches, education, sociology, psychology, and communication.
And have special skills:
- Able to expand and deepen new extension and communication theories through multi- and transdisciplinary approaches in the context of community empowerment.
- Able to develop research through empirical theoretical studies based on theories of education, counseling, and communication as well as other relevant social theories, and find novelty in their research.
- Able to manage and develop the capacity of community counselors/empowerment/companions and contribute to the formulation of community empowerment policies.
